A final report on viewpoints of the Owasco Flats will be available for public review Monday, July 9.
The report can be seen at the Seymour Library on Genesee Street in Auburn, Powers Library on Church Street in Moravia, the Cayuga County Planning and Development Department in the County Office Building on Genesee Street, Auburn, the Moravia town and village halls and the offices of the Finger Lakes Land Trust at 202 East Court St., Ithaca.
A steering committee composed of local and state government officials and citizens groups, including the land trust, was established to identify important issues with the wetlands that border Owasco Lake to the south and are home to the lake's main tributaries.
An analysis of the flats were held between June 2006 and May. Landowners in the flats were interviewed as part of the project. Recommended findings include making the flats a state wildlife management area, developing a watershed management plan for the Owasco Inlet and restoring flat's wetlands.
