Everyone loves a good mystery and there are many to be solved at your local library. The theme of the New York State Summer Reading Program is Get a Clue @ Your Library. Our summer reading program at the Aurora Free Library will feature storytelling, presentations by special guests and crafts.
All of the programs take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesdays and are free.
Did you ever wonder what it would be like to work for the FBI or to be a private investigator? Find out about solving crimes July 10 with Amy Godert a professor of chemistry at Wells College when she talks about fingerprinting.
Children can solve historical mysteries July 17 when local retired teacher, Marilyn Mann, shares stories and historical artifacts from the Genoa Historical Association.
Children will also participate in various activities and crafts from the past. Stations will be set up to investigate the Mysterious Senses, and art teacher Judy Jordan will lead all in a craft July 24.
During our final program on July 31, Holly Barton will present Science Mysteries, and children will come away with an interesting science project.
During the summer the library will offer other events for children as well.
In mid-July children are invited to continue writing a book started last summer by the children of Aurora.
On Wednesday, July 18, children will write and illustrate the next chapter of “Lionel and Lester the Two-Headed Lake Dragon” from 1 to 3 p.m.
The first chapter is available at the library. Come see the beautiful artwork and imaginative story that was created last year by local youngsters and be a part of creating chapter two.
Aspiring actors will be able to participate in a theater workshop in the Morgan Opera House (above the library) from 9 a.m. to noon during the week of July 30 through Aug. 3.
Two local high school students will lead students in theater games, acting exercises, and participants will perform in an original script tailored to their talents and interests.
A final performance will be held on the evening of Aug. 3. The cost is $50. There are still openings. To register, call Jacci at 364-8953.
The annual Teddy Bears' Picnic is a popular and fun event commemorating the end of the summer reading program each year.
This year it will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 11. Bring your favorite bear and a picnic lunch and come see Moreland the Magician.
David Moreland has appeared in films and on TV shows and is sure to leave the audience spellbound.
All bears in attendance will receive a prize. Enjoy a magical Saturday afternoon with family and furry friends at the library.
Be sure to get a clue @ your library this summer and investigate some great books.
