After paying $2 after 6 p.m. to just go walk the pier at Owasco Lake which they recently spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to make beautiful, I noticed that the beautiful brick sidewalks that they put in are already falling apart and are not properly being repaired. Maybe they should use the $2 entrance fee just to walk the pier to upkeep the beautiful park that they just got done fixing.
I was so glad to see the article about the Child Advocacy Center, now let's see how much this county actually values our greatest natural resource.

I wonder what would happen if somebody tested the sewage coming out of Auburn prison for illegal drugs, and see what's going on behind those walls.

United States should annex Mexico. It is the merciful way to heal many mutual ills and Mexico is part of North America anyways.

Music in the mall is all about live music, being outside with friends and people you don't get to see after being cooped up all winter. It is, after all, summer.

After watching the city council meeting on TV about new curbs and streets being done, our mayor is worried about asking homeowners to pay for curbs and maybe they should be included as the street gets done. If that is the case, when Burt Avenue was done and we the homeowners paid for curbs, maybe we should get a refund.

" I said nothing about worse crimes -- that wasn't the topic being discussed. I wasn't stating my priorities, I was just commenting on the subject at hand. Of course police should enforce the laws -- they should enforce them ALL -- the ones dealing with violent crimes AND traffic laws which when violated can lead to death of innocent people and destruction of other's property no less than assault and robbery. We have laws for good reasons, not to ignore some because others are more important. And if you read MY note more closely, you'll see that I was not admonishing the police (I didn't mention police at all); I was admonishing the people who break laws because they think they are somehow above the laws. They think, perhaps, that because there are worse crimes it makes it OK to commit these lesser crimes. That's faulty reasoning -- and it's the reason so many people die in traffic "accidents" every year. For example. "

" Heartbreak, I think you were absent from school when they taught reading comprehension. I said nothing about cops and hanging at Dunkin Donut but rather the opposite. People complain about petty traffic regulations that they feel that police don't prosecute. My opinion was that they have tight manpower budgets and they more more important fish to fry such as assaults, robbery, and other serious crimes. Do you now understand? Read twice slowly and you may comprehend what you read. Also about paying $2 to walk at the lake, I think he is refering to parking his car and then walking on the pier. Unless he walks to the park and then walks the lake it will cost him to park his car. Read s-l-o-w-l-y so you can understand what people are saying. "

" "you want them to make people stop completely at stop signs?" YES! Why? Because people running stop signs have the potential to commit murder by running over people or hitting another car. That is exactly WHY there are stop signs on streets. Just like the seat belt LAW. They are required to wear seat belts because of the potential of flying through the windows of a vehicle while in an accident. The stop sign is there because of the potential of killing people at intersections. Police officers jobs aren't just to stop criminals from assault and robbery. "

" Since when did we have to pay to walk at the lake??? Another thing, why do I always here people talk about cops and Dunkin Donuts? I did a early morning ride along for school with the APD and its not cops do is hang at the donut shop! Like any other morning person they drink coffee too. As much as people bash the APD there is one thing you have to think about, they protect you, they put their lives on the line everyday for us.. they are just like our troops in Iraq. Would you like our city to be like Rochester, Albany or Syracuse? Our crime isnt that bad, why is that??? The APD on the streets. Get a life cop haters! "

" The city has criminals assaulting and robbing people and you want them to make people stop completely at stop signs? Where are your priorities? The taxpayers whine at every tax increase and demand that every penny be squeezed tight in the budgets, but we must put a task squad on the streets to make cars stop completely at every stop sign? And don't forget a patrol at Dunkee Donutz to stop illegal left turns. Use your head and think before you write stupid letters to the newspaper. "

" PR, I think you have put your finger on a disturbing trend I see more in more in all kinds of aspects of life: People who think that they can decide when the rules apply to them and when they think they can just ignore the law. There are an awful lot of people out there who think that if they decide the law isn't right, or shouldn't apply to them, or shouldn't apply under certain circumstances, they have the right to ignore the law. Yet if you point it out to them, they become very indignant. It's like they just can't see how wrong their thinking is, how much is endangered by this wrong-headed thinking -- lives, property, and the general chaos and lawlessness that goes with each person deciding on his or her own laws to follow. I find it all very disturbing. "

" I think I have finally figured out why people do not stop at stop signs, because I asked one of them. Their response was, “nobody else was at the stop sign”. I was floored. I guess the new way of driving in Auburn is that as long as nobody else is at a stop sign its ok to run it. People do not realize that kids may be running in the neighborhood or riding bicycles and may use poor judgment. The lady that ran the stop sign that I talked to also had children in her car. She should have gotten a ticket for running the stop sign and endangering her children, because that’s exactly what she did. Auburn has a problem with drivers running stop sign and red lights. It has been a long time since I heard a car horn blow when someone does wrong driving. Tell you what, every time you see someone running a stop sign, or red light, blow your horn, and let them know you saw it. Maybe then the mayor will do something about the noise form the horns, and enforce the traffic laws. I understand the police are understaffed, but maybe we need to hire traffic only officers. It’s a start, and the city can reap the money from the fines, which probably could eliminate property taxes altogether. "
