Auburn not handling street projects very well

So, the city is resorting to bribery now, is it? In its recent letter, dated June 19, 2007, the city states: “Your street is tentatively scheduled for road repair work this year ... The streets in which a majority of the property owners choose to install curbing with remain on the list.”
We feel that this sort of “encouragement” to property owners is rather insulting and somewhat unethical. Don't we pay enough taxes already? If the cost of curbing cannot be included with the tax monies already collected for road projects, then the curbing can be left out.. I can understand wanting it. It would look nice. But curbing is really not a necessity.

Further, though the letter states that the cost can be included in the homeowner's tax payments over the next five years, it does not state what that cost will be. Most homeowners we know like to know what they're paying before hiring out a job. Lastly, we live right across from Casey Park Elementary School and our street is in horrible condition. Shouldn't our street be at the top of the list anyway?

" Why should the property owner in the City of Auburn be responsible for curb replacement??When the street is repaved or other work is done by City contract the curbing should be included. The property owner pays for it in the long run because the City just reapraises and raises TAXES. They should change Auburns name to TAX CITY. "
