Wastewater plant could get grant
U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton announced Friday that the Senate Appropriations Committee approved granting $500,000 to develop a new power supply for Auburn's wastewater treatment plant.
An engineering feasibility study recommended that the Regional Bioenergy Enterprise transition from incinerating the plant's sludge to a methane digester that could dispose of the sludge and utilize methane gas from the city landfill.
The result could be electricity to power the plant and provide power to industrial users at the city's technology park.
The Energy and Water Development Fiscal Year 2008 Appropriations bill will now be sent to the full Senate.
If the bill is passed, it will be sent to the U.S House of Representatives.
