DeVito to get special award for contribution
Danny DeVito will receive a special award for his outstanding artistic contribution to world cinema at the 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
The festival in the western Czech spa of Karlovy Vary opened Friday with 14 mostly European movies competing for the Crystal Globe top prize.
Oscar winner Renee Zellweger was to present an award to Czech director Bretislav Pojar at the opening ceremony.
“Danny DeVito first caught the attention of Central Europeans when he performed so brilliantly in our countryman Milos Forman's masterpiece ‘One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest,”' said festival President Jiri Bartoska in a statement posted on the festival's Web site.
Harry Potter gets
flustered over first kiss
First kisses can be tricky. Even for Harry Potter.
Daniel Radcliffe - the star of the Harry Potter series - said Friday while in Tokyo for the premiere of the latest installment that it took a few takes to get over the nerves of getting the young wizard through his first on-screen kiss.
And even then, he didn't really feel the magic.
“When we started it, we were both a bit nervous,” Radcliffe said at a news conference. “But after the first few takes, it was sort of like any other scene, which is never really what people want to hear. It doesn't really feel any different, because you are still acting.”
In “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,” the latest in the megahit series based on J.K. Rowling's books, Harry comes of age and has his first on-screen kiss, with longtime crush Cho Chang, played by Katie Leung.
Failed testimony gets Brown assailant released
A woman charged with assaulting and robbing Foxy Brown was released from jail after the rapper failed to appear before a grand jury to testify against her.
Roshawn Anthony, 23, was released from Riker's Island on her own recognizance Thursday but still faces charges of robbery, assault and grand larceny in the alleged attack last Saturday, according to a spokesman for the Brooklyn district attorney's office. She has denied the charges.
Police say Anthony and three other people teamed up to rob Brown of a Louis Vuitton bag, $500 in cash and credit cards in the East New York section of Brooklyn.
The 27-year-old rapper, whose real name is Inga Marchand, is no stranger to violence. She pleaded guilty last year to misdemeanor assault charges stemming from a fight with salon workers over payment for a manicure in Manhattan's Chelsea neighborhood.
