Four people safely escaped a fire that engulfed a lakeside camp Thursday morning.
A Route 90 summer home in Ledyard was “pretty much engulfed” when firefighters arrived around 6:10 a.m., Aurora Fire Department Chief Mark Bailey said.
“We managed to save the garage,” Bailey said. None of the occupants and the firefighters quelling the blaze were hurt.
The fire was called in at 6:01 a.m., according to fire control. Firefighters got the fire knocked down in about an hour, Bailey said.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the cause is believed to be non-suspicious, Bailey said.
The Aurelius, Aurora, King Ferry, Poplar Ridge, Scipio and Union Springs fire departments responded. Cayuga and Long Hill fire departments were on standby. Southern Cayuga ambulance also was on standby.
Bailey did not have the names of the summer camp occupants.
