Bottles of an unusual drink flavor sold at Wegmans Food Markets may have a lot more “pop” than expected.

Wegmans on Friday issued an alert for customers who purchased bottles of a store-brand drink because of excess pressure in the bottles.

Customers with unopened 33.8 ounce bottles of Wegmans Blueberry Lemon Frizzante are advised to place the bottles in a garbage bag, tie or seal the bag and place it in an outdoor garbage container.

In a news release, Wegmans said excess pressure can cause the liquid to forcefully spray out when the bottles are opened and that one bottle is reported to have burst. Bottles that have already been opened do not present a hazard. Blueberry Lemon is the only flavor affected by this alert. The UPC code reads: 77890 31497.Wegmans asks that to avoid extra handling of the product, that the bottles not be returned to stores. As compensation, customers who purchased this product on or after Dec. 1, 2006 using their shoppers club card will receive a coupon in the mail.
