AMH ER to offer ‘fast track' care
Auburn Memorial Hospital's emergency room is now offering a “fast track” for patients with minor injuries or illnesses.

The goal of the initiative is to reduce long waiting times in the emergency care unit by scheduling certified physician assistants or nurse practitioners to treat patients with minor injuries. The emergency room physicians will be freed up to focus on serious or critical cases.

A triage nurse will assess each patient to see if the fast track service is appropriate.

Before this effort, patients were treated according to the severity of their conditions, not their arrival times.

The fast track will be available seven days a week from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.

“Now, the fast track service will help us significantly shorten waiting times,” said Dr. A. James Ciaccio, director of the AMH Emergency Department in a release.“ We respect our patients' time, and we will continue our efforts to improve the service.”
