What does it take to have a road completely paved? The state, the canal corporation, Cayuga County and the Town of Brutus need to be aware of the poor conditions of a section of Towpath Road (only 1 mile - half of total road size). This is very upsetting to see a disabled man utilize this small secondary road for his enjoyment and exercise. To see this man, who is disabled and in a wheelchair, covered with tar from the hot tar on the road, it's all over his tires of his wheelchair, his hands, as well as on his clothing. To think the family has gone to the Town of Brutus to express their concern numerous times, and all the town states is there's no money and that the road is not traveled much.
This road is traveled a lot. School buses, Ononodaga Coach buses, construction trucks and other machinery, traffic from nearby racetrack events, are just a few, besides the new visitors of the new canal trails, visit and walk or cycle this road.
They also have expressed how the tar is all over their shoes or bicycle tires and clothing, as well.
The town's solution was is putting crushed stone to stop the tar. The stone only sticks to one's shoes, or in this case, the poor man's wheelchair, and it's worse.
On the other hand, on the opposite end of Towpath Road, sits the school bus garage and the Town of Brutus highway department, which is well paved.
And furthermore, Pump Road, another secondary road, much longer in size, was paved. What gave that road priority over Towpath Road?
In my research, the Town of Brutus received money for the maintenance of the trails, as well as Towpath Road, a part of the Erie trails. Let's put that money where it should be.
In addition to the conditions, what does it take to remove the tar from one's hands, and tires in this case? GAS.
That's really great to use on a regular basis. Great for your health. What if this was one of your family members?
The advocates for people with disabilities need to step up for this man.
