Junior Girl Scout Troop 419 of Weedsport joined 150,000 Girl Scouts from around the country at the nation's capital for a sing-a-long to commemorate the movement's 95th anniversary.
In addition to enjoying songs led by a variety of performers, the girls exchanged “swaps” with Girl Scouts from 10 different states. Swaps are usually hand-made items representing local areas that Girl Scouts exchange when meeting others.
While in Washington, D.C., the girls visited Arlington National Cemetery, the National Air and Space Museum, the Memorials and the zoo.
Girls attending are fifth graders at Weedsport Elementary School. They include: Lianna Brentlinger, Karleen Mathews, Alisha Whiting, Alexis Short, Emily Seward, Shannon Griffin, Kaitlyn O'Connell, Michelle Miler, Maris Thomas, Hannali Patidar, Brooke Gilbert and Kaylee Walker.
From Jordan Elbridge Elementary School: Ebonie Martin. Adults accompanying the girls were MaryKae Brentlinger, Tina Mathews, Donna Whiting and Val Short. Terrie Haynes and Deborah Schwarting from Weedsport also made the trek to the sing-a-long.

The Auburn area will have an encampment at the council's Yaiewano Program Center in August.
€ Nineteen Girl Scouts from the council's jurisdiction will be honored in July with a Gold Award. Jana Mlodzianowski of Weedsport will be among the honorees as we celebrate July 12 in Ithaca. Receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award are Kaylee Adler of Montezuma, Amanda Vitale of Auburn, and from Port Byron: Felicia Darrow, Amber Juhl, Ellen Pilat and Katie Wyckoff. More details on the young women of distinction will be published in the July column.
€ There are still a few spaces left in our summer programs, including resident camp sessions at Yaiewano.
