Bereavement camp open to children
Hospice of the Finger Lakes and Auburn YMCA is sponsoring a special day camp, Camp Hearts A'Hoy, for children ages 7 to 14 who have lost a parent, sibling, grandparent or special friend, on Thursday, July 5, at Y Owasco Camp. The day-long camp begins at 10 a.m. The camp is open to children who live in Cayuga County, Elbridge and Skaneateles whether or not their families were served under Hospice.

The camp provides children the opportunity to share their feelings and memories in a safe setting with other children who have lost a loved one. Each child will have an adult buddy with whom he/she can share his/her story, make crafts and enjoy the Y's waterfront fun.

There is no fee for the camp, but it is limited to 15 participants. To register, call the Hospice office at 255-2733.

Red Cross blood drive scheduled in Cato

The Cato-Meridian Community Recreation Center will hold an American Red Cross Blood Drive from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at the center, 2851 Route 370 East, Cato.

Swimming lessons offered at park

Swimming lessons will be offered to swimmers of all ages and levels in three two-week sessions.

The first session is held July 9 through 20, second session July 23 through Aug. 3 and third session Aug. 6 through 17, at Harris Park, Depot Road, Cayuga. Lessons are 30 minutes and will be held Monday through Thursday with Friday as a rain date. Lessons are sponsored by the Cayuga-Aurelius Recreation Program.

Cost is $15 per child, $20 for two children, $25 for three and more than three children, add $5 per child.

Long-term care seminar to be given

A free long-term care insurance information seminar will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Holiday Inn, North Street, Auburn.

To reserve a seat, call the Cayuga County Office for the Aging at 253-1017.

Cancer support group meets monthly

WeCare, a cancer support group in Skaneateles, will offer a community-wide cancer educational meeting from 3 to 4:30 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of the month, at St. James Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 96 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles. The next meeting is July 18. Handicapped access is provided through the main entrance to the church.

Office for Aging offers support group

The Office for the Aging's Alzheimer's Community Service Program offers a support group for caregivers providing care to Alzheimer's and other dementia such as Parkinson's disease and Picks disease. The group meets at 4:30 p.m. the third Thursday of every month, at the Christ United Methodist church on Congress Street in Moravia. The next meeting will be held July 19.
