IRA - Super sleuth Henry Safnauer has been on the case since May and may have finally tracked down the SOBs who have the school bell. Safnauer, who doubles as the Cato-Meridian school district superintendent, first put out an appeal for information on the missing bell in the district's alumni newsletter. The bell, which once graced the cupola of the old high school, has been missing since the 1970s. During the 1960s the bell was the subject of an ongoing game of “hide and seek” by a male student group, the Society of the Bell (SOBs) and their female counterparts the Society of the Seekers (SOSs).

AUBURN - A 150-year-old house on Westlake Avenue has been destroyed. City planner Jim Galvin said it would cost too much to restore the building after Cayuga County Homsite pleaded its case.
