Union Springs earns sportsmanship award
The Union Springs athletic program recently received the IAC Sportsmanship Award for all sports for the entire 2006-07 school year.
The voting is done by all varsity coaches for the fall, winter and spring athletic seasons at all 18 school districts in the IAC.
“We were fortunate to be elected the winner of this award for the entire athletic year,” Union Springs athletic coordinator Tim Darnell said.
YMCA offering power training class
The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering a four-week course for athletic power training. The sessions will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning on June 25.
The training session is designed to improve speed, agility and power. The size of the class is limited to 10 participants.

Pop Warner sign-up is today at YMCA
Registration for Pop Warner football and cheerleading will take place from noon to 2 p.m. today, at the YMCA.
Newcomers must bring a copy of their birth certificate, a photo, and a parent or guardian must be present.

Cheer Camp begins Monday in Cato
The Cato-Meridian Community Recreation Center will hold “Cheer Camp” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 25-29.
The camp will teach boys and girls the basics of cheerleading, including cheers, stunts and tumbling.

Call play-by-play in a D-days' game
The Auburn Doubledays are teaming up with the ALS Association to help the fight against amytrophic lateral sclerosis, also referred to as Lou Gehrig's disease.
Every Saturday throughout the season, auctions will be held for the chance to be in the WAUB radio booth for the fourth, fifth and sixth innings as the play-by-play of color announcer.
The winning bidder has the option and will be part of the broadcast on 1590 AM in Auburn as well as worldwide on milb.com.
The Doubledays will provide a CD of the game that day so that the winning bidder can have a recording to take home.
Bidding will take place on auburndoubledays.com as well as by phone in the Doubledays office at 255-2489. Auctions will close the Sunday prior to the game up for auction at 7 p.m.
Half of the winning bid from the auction will go directly to the ALS Association.
Bass Pro hosting lumberjack shows
The Hank Peters Lumberjack shows will take place at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. June 23-24, outside the Bass Pro Shops Sportsman's Center in the Fingerlakes Mall.
The shows will include all phases of lumberjack competition.
