Women's lacrosse league starts in July
The Auburn Women's Box Lacrosse League will begin play July 3, at Casey Park. The season will last until the first week of August, and finish with playoff and championship games.

All games will take place on Tuesday nights at 6, 7 and 8 p.m. The league is open to players entering high school, as well as college graduates. Players entering the ninth grade are preferred to have JV level experience. The registration fee is $50, which includes a team T-shirt.

Falcon Sportsmen to teach children

Falcon Sportsmen's Club is starting a basic .22 rifle class for children between the ages of 12 and 16. Children will learn firearm safety, maintenance and responsibility, as well as basic shooting skills. The size of the class is limited.

YMCA offering athletic training

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering a four-week course for athletic power training. The sessions will run from 10 to 11 a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays beginning June 25.

The training session is designed to improve speed, agility and power. The size of the class is limited to 10 participants.

Rolling Wheels to host races Friday

“Furiously Fast Friday Night” street drag racing will take place at 8 p.m. June 22, at the Rolling Wheels Raceway Park on Route 5 in Elbridge.

There will also be a neon glow contest and a burnout contest. The World of Outlaws late model series will will take place at 7 p.m. June 24 at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Pop Warner taking registrations

Registration for Pop Warner football and cheerleading will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. June 21, and noon to 2 p.m. June 23, at the YMCA. Newcomers must bring a copy of their birth certificate, a photo, and a parent or guardian must be present.

Money available for summer camps

Sen. Mike Nozzolio has secured $10,000 in funding to help provide Auburn City School District students with an opportunity to improve their athletic skills, build character and leadership, and increase their chances to earn athletic scholarships.

Application forms are available in the Auburn High School guidance office and at the Auburn Athletic Office at 78 Thornton Ave.

The deadline to be considered for this funding is July 6.

Only students who will be juniors or seniors in the 2007-08 school year are eligible, and the maximum award is $250.
