How could someone take disabled shopper's money?

Wednesday, June 20, 2007 9:39 AM EDT

I would like to compliment whomever it was at Aldi's that picked up the money my obviously disabled child had dropped, and pocketed it for themselves. He was at the grocery store with his rehab aide to learn how to get a few groceries while figuring out what he needed and how much he had to spend.
While in the checkout line, he noted that he had two $20 bills, not one like he had thought. He decided to go back to get another carton of ice cream, now that he knew he had enough money to by it. With his aide watching, my son (the independent teenager he so wants to be) went over to freezer to get it.

When he returned to the checkout line it was immediately obvious that he had lost the money.

Within seconds, he and his aide retraced his steps back to the freezer and searched everywhere, inside and out, to no avail. They also checked all his pockets on the off-chance that he put the money back in his pocket. I checked later at the store and no one had turned in the money.

Gee, what a surprise.

So to whomever took the money, I hope it put a great big smile on your face to steal from an honest and obviously handicapped child who would've been the first one to return the money to you had the situation been reversed. He is trying to learn the life skills he will need to survive once we are no longer here to care for him anymore. You should be extremely proud of yourself.

" He has learned the important life lesson that there are hardships in life and that most people in this world are not honest and respectful. It is a hard lesson to learn but it is reality. "

" You need to realize that $40 will buy enough crack for an evening. "

" Mr&Mrs Chadwick, If a person had learned at home honesty and manners and respect of others property, your sons money would have been returned. The person(s) who found your sons money are just the product of their up bring, low lifes nothing less. "

" This letter gave me the goose bumps because it is so sad. I am really sorry that happened and I hope the person that kept the $ read it and feels bad. Not that it will do any good because I am sure it is spent already, but it would be nice if they felt shame at least for a moment. "
