AUBURN -- The city school board extended the contract for Assistant Superintendent Joseph D. "J.D." Pabis and agreed to terms for his upcoming appointment as interim district chief Tuesday.
The Auburn Enlarged City School District Board of Education voted 7-1 in favor of the contract extension following an executive session. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Board member Joseph Leogrande cast the only no vote.
Pabis, the current assistant superintendent of personnel, finance and operations for the district, will serve as interim superintendent following the departure of John Plume, who retires July 27. In a separate resolution, the board unanimously agreed Pabis will recieve a stipend of $250 per workday in addition to his annual salary.
The appointment expires at the end of the year or when a permanent superintendent is selected. A search is under way.
