An Auburn woman suffered injuries after fending off a man who tried to sexually assault her early Sunday morning, Auburn police said.
The victim was grabbed in her Washington Street home by a large male, estimated at 250 pounds with a heavy build. She then scratched his face and kicked him in his lower body until he fled.

The man punched the victim in the face and head repeatedly. Her face and head have minor bruising and swelling.

The Auburn Police Department is asking for any information regarding a suspect who has scratches to his face and bruises and other marks on the lower part of his body.

The suspect is described as 35 to 45 years old, black, 5 feet and 5 inches tall, with a bald or a shaved head. He was wearing glasses, a black button-up dress shirt, blue jeans and black dress shoes.

The man approached the victim at 12:30 a.m. Sunday and asked for a cigarette.

As she left her front porch to get one from her home, he followed her inside. The man then began grabbing her.

Police are withholding additional details, but said he proceeded to attempt to sexually assault her.

Police asks anyone with any information to contact them at 253-3235 or 255-4706.

" I smell a rat. The story doesn't sound right to me. Maybe drugs. I think someone wanted to buy or sell. NOOOOOOOOOOO that wouldn't happen in Auburn. Not on Washington st. Would it??? "

" If a strange man approached you at that time of night, why wouldn't you go inside and lock the door. Not go and get him a cigarette. This is foolish, you are asking for trouble. "
