The county Legislature is trying to block the sale of Camp Columbus by the Comprehensive Technology Center. The Legislature authorized County Attorney Thomas Stopyra to take any legal action necessary to postpone the sale until an audit by the state Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities (OMRDD) is completed. And County Chair Ralph Standbrook, R-Fair Haven, told the Legislature they could look into options for continuing the CTC's programs.

Auburn officials are warning teens to stay away from the swelling Owasco Outlet after a 14-year-old girl narrowly escaped drowning in the stream's swirling rapids. Jeanette Bowman, 14, of Auburn and three friends were standing along the outlet's bank when she slipped and fell into the treacherous waters shortly before 9 p.m. In 5-foot-deep cold water, Bowman somehow managed to swim to safety by the time rescuers arrived. She didn't suffer any injuries and was taken to police headquarters, where her mother picked her up. No charges were brought against her or the other three unidentified girls.
