Two more Auburn High School students were diagnosed Friday with pertussis, more commonly known as whooping cough, and the Cayuga County Health Department is urging people showing symptoms of the disease to seek treatment to help limit the spread.
A news release issued by the health department Friday said laboratory confirmation of two cases of pertussis brings the total number of Auburn residents recently diagnosed with the disease to seven. The initial cases were an infant and his mother, and the other five are Auburn High School students.

The Health Department is investigating the most recently diagnosed cases to see whether there's a link between them and the people previously diagnosed.

Anyone with pertussis symptoms -- a mild respiratory infection that develops into a more severe cough -- should be checked by a physician and then stay at home until lab results are confirmed, according to the health department.
