Minde receives scholarship
The Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers Honorary Society, Alpha Mu Chapter, announced the 2007 recipient of its Memorial Grant.

Katelyn Minde, a senior at Southern Cayuga Central School, has been awarded the scholarship.

Minde has demonstrated her potential to become an outstanding woman educator, according to the awards announcement.

Church service to honor graduates

A Baccalaureate Service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 17, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, Route 90, King Ferry, for the senior class of Southern Cayuga Central School. Parents, teachers, friends and family are invited to attend this ecumenical service honoring the Class of 2007. Refreshments will follow the service.

McConnell to attend special program

Desiree McConnell, a student at Auburn High School will attend Presidential Classroom's Law and Justice in a Democracy Program June 24 through 30 in Washington, D.C.

The mission of the Presidential Classroom is to provide the highest quality civic education programs for outstanding high school students, using Washington, D.C., as a classroom. The program expands students' knowledge of politics, government and roles and responsibilities of institutions and organizations involved in policy making.

Green honored for physical education

The United States Achievement Academy announced that Mark Green from Auburn has been named a United Sates National Award Winner in physical education.

Green was nominated by Shelly Connors, a teacher at the school.

He is the son of Mark and Maria Green of Auburn.

Retired teachers to offer scholarship

The Cayuga County Retired Teachers Association will accept applications until July 1, for its annual scholarship. This $1,500 scholarship is available to college juniors and seniors planning to enter the field of education.

Valentino receives ROTC Award

Joseph Valentino of Auburn, a senior majoring in entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises in the Martin J. Whitman School of Management at Syracuse University, received the Daughters of the American Revolution Award at the University's Army and Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Chancellor's Review and Awards Ceremony recently.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Award is presented to a senior Army and Air Force cadet who demonstrates qualities of leadership, dependability, military discipline and a fundamental understanding of the importance of patriotism. The award consists of a gold medal, ribbon and certificate.
