A trio of talent will be making its way to Red Creek this weekend to debut the “In the Hayloft” concert series for a newly released CD titled “Jamcrackers.”
Musicians Dan Berggren along with his wife, Peggy Lynn, and Dan Duggan will introduce several original songs in combination with some old traditions to compose a “masterful arrangement,” Duggan said. “It's all acoustic, and it creates a wonderful sound in the barn,” that the band has converted into a performance stage, hence “In the Hayloft.”

Berggren explained that the aesthetic appeal of the area of Red Creek, coupled with the old-fashioned type barn and homestead, creates a wonderful atmosphere for just this type of music.

“Everybody always loves it,” he said. “And it's especially nice to do something in our community, where people from Auburn and Syracuse can come, as well as our regional crowd.”

He said the band spends so much time traveling that performing for their hometown audience is expected to be a real treat.

Collectively the three have released more than 20 critically acclaimed recordings of original songs and instrumental pieces.

“This will be a concert you will long remember,” Duggan said in a press release.

The CD features 16 songs, which the band has played across the country.

Berggren is a recognized songwriter in the North East and has received both the Presidents Award for Excellence in Teaching and the New York State Outdoor Education Association Art and Literature Award. He has also released six recordings of original songs.

Duggan is nationally known for his talent on Hammered Dulcimer and Flat Picking Guitar, and is the recipient of the National Hammered Dulcimer Championship. He has recorded five albums of original compositions.

Peggy Lynn is a nationally acclaimed singer/songwriter, recognized for her soulful voice, and “heartfelt” messages. She was selected as the “Adirondack Woman of the Year” in 1996. She has released six recordings.

Peggy Lynn has also written a book titled “Breaking Trail,” which Berggren says encompasses the main focus of their selected genre. “We focus on the lifestyle and people of the Adirondacks in our music,” he said. “That's where ‘Jamcrackers' comes from. They were the guys in the Adirondacks who broke up the log jams.” Peggy Lynn's book and songs generally focus on the women of the Adirondacks.
