Aykroyd giving power, money to vineyards
Dan Aykroyd is throwing his star power behind an $11 million winery that aims to boost the Niagara wine region's international profile.

The Dan Aykroyd Winery, which will showcase souvenirs from the actor's career, will be located near the town of Lincoln, Ontario, in the heart of the province's vineyards.

“This is really a dream,” said Aykroyd, who was born in Ottawa, during a news conference Wednesday.

“We joked about doing a Coneheads vodka or something,” the 54-year-old actor said, referring to one of his best-known characters on NBC's “Saturday Night Live.” “And I never thought that a line of wines would be a possibility.”

Construction begins this fall and should be completed in time for the 2008 growing season.

The winery will feature technologies such as solar panels and green-friendly wastewater management systems.

The Game isn't playing with police for plea

West Coast rapper The Game, who was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer last year, rejected a Manhattan prosecutor's offer Wednesday of a guilty plea for a sentence of time already served.

A guilty plea to the misdemeanor charge in exchange for the time he spent waiting to go to court would have ended the case against The Game, whose real name is Jayceon Taylor, said his lawyer, Jeffrey Lichtman.

“Why should he plead guilty to bogus charges for a non-jail sentence if he's innocent,” Lichtman said. “And he is innocent. It's rare that I have a 100 percent innocent defendant, but this is one.”

The 27-year-old rapper was arrested in November 2006 after he told a cab driver that he was an undercover police officer and persuaded him to run a series of red lights, police said after his arrest.

Mother Spears says daughter is only normal

Lynne Spears says her daughter Britney, whose public meltdown included shearing off her own locks, is “just figuring things out.”

“It's sad that the whole world had to watch her make mistakes that all of us have made at one time or another,” Spears said.

The 25-year-old pop star completed a monthlong stay at a luxury Malibu, Calif., rehabilitation treatment facility in March after attracting an onslaught of media attention for wild behavior that included partying with Paris Hilton and a stop at a San Fernando Valley hair salon, where she shaved her own head.

Britney Spears, who reached a divorce settlement with aspiring rapper Kevin Federline in March, recently posted a message on her Web site saying she had been acting like a “bad kid running around with ADD (attention deficit disorder).”
