Lattimore to host campaign breakfast
The Committee to Re-elect Timothy Lattimore as mayor will host a breakfast with Lattimore from 7 to 10 a.m. Friday, June 15, at the Springside Inn in Fleming.
Tickets cost $20. Organizers welcome walk-ins, or people can send pre-payments to the committee at P.O. Box 1097, Auburn.
Man charged with stolen gun possession
A former Cayuga County man was charged by the Cayuga County Sheriff's Office June 1 with the possession of a gun stolen in 2004 from a County House Road, Sennett, residence.
Joshua M. Vreeland, 21, of Corning, was charged with the felony of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
He pleaded guilty in Auburn City Court Thursday to the reduced misdemeanor charge of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and was sentenced to 15 days in Cayuga County Jail.
The gun was recovered in August 2004 from a local gun shop, but Vreeland's arrest warrant had been pending since then. It was originally stolen during a party held at the residence.
Police charge man with assaulting girl
An Auburn man was charged by Auburn police Tuesday with allegedly spanking a girl on the legs with a spaghetti spoon.
Mark A. Tanner, 35, of Upper Apt., 9 Elizabeth St., was charged with the misdemeanors of third-degree assault and endangering the welfare of a child for an incident on Monday. The girl had welts on her leg, police said.
Police said it was alleged to be discipline by Tanner, but that it was deemed to be excessive corporal punishment.
