Each Wednesday, The Citizen features someone in the food services industry from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks: This week, we spotlight David Rouse of Pete's Treats.
Q. What is the one food you cannot live without? Why?

A. Chocolate. I'm a chocolate hound.

Q. Fill in the blank. People would be surprised to know that even though I work in the food industry, when I am at home in the kitchen, I __________.

A. Just play around and try nothing extravagant.

Q. What do you like most about living and working in the Finger Lakes region?

A. I like the friendly people and I like three out of the four seasons.

Q. If you were given $1 million to open your own restaurant, describe it and what type of food you would serve.

A. I'd open a party house, but it'd be strictly for banquets and weddings.

Q. Where would it be located? Why?

A. I'd just put it between Auburn and Weedsport because I think somewhere down the road Auburn's going to grow in that direction.

Q. On the day of your restaurant's grand opening, if you could select anyone in the world to be your first three guests, who would they be?

A. I'd want all my extended family there.

Q. Describe your most embarrassing moment while working on the job.

A. It hasn't occurred yet. I used to run the KFC in Auburn a long time ago, but I never put myself in embarrassing situations; I never had an accident in front of people.

Q. What is your favorite junk food?

A. Blackberry pie.

Q. What have you learned are the top three ways to run a successful food business?

A. A good, clean appearance, good and fast service and good food.

Q. If you weren't working in the food business what would you like to be doing?

A. I'd like to be out on Owasco or Cayuga Lake, fishing.

Q. Ugh. What's the one food which you absolutely can't stomach? Why?

A. I don't really disapprove of any food, but I don't care for turnips.
