A quiet wedding took place at the parsonage of the First Presbyterian Church last evening when Miss Nellie M. Cottrell, became the bride of William E. Jones. The couple are well-known Auburnians and will reside in the city.

June 13, 1947

Three formen, who refused to join a strike against the Ford Motor Company, were beaten severely by three carloads of unidentified men, police reported. The men were ambushed as they stopped to pick up one of their number en route to the Ford's River Rouge plant in Michigan.

June 13, 1997

The Weedsport school district is the first in Cayuga County to settle with its teachers. The board agreed unanimously on a three-year package that will give the district's 83 instructors a 3.7 percent increase over a three-year period. The contract, which dates back to July 1996, will extend through June 30, 1999. “We've been working on it for the past year, and we're happy to have it settled,” said school board President Deborah Schwarting. “I think it is fair to both sides.” The teachers had agreed to the package May 23, pending the board's approval.

June 13, 2002

After a surprise vote nixing a contract agreement with Cayuga County last week, members of the Cayuga County Deputy Sheriff's Police Association approved a new five-year contract in a revote on Tuesday. The original June 3 vote was deemed invalid because one person who cast a ballot was not a member of the union, said union President James Langler, a sergeant at the sheriff's department.
