This week, we spotlight Dr. Kevin Coleman of Coleman Chiropractic.

Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?

A. Being able to help someone when they are in pain as well as getting to know them on a personal level.

Q. What is the most challenging?

A. Dealing with insurance companies.

Q. Describe your ideal patient.

A. Someone who takes an active role in their treatment. They ask questions, do what is recommended and keep their appointments.

Q. When you're sick, would you want someone like you to be your doctor?

A. I would like to think so.

Q. What is the best piece of advice you could give someone to stay healthy?

A. Eat a balanced diet, exercise, don't smoke and enjoy life.

Q. What's the most common misconception you hear from patients?

A. That their joints are subluxated or “out-of-alignment.” True subluxations are rare and commonly associated with severe trauma. I prefer to describe the joint as “not functioning.”

Q. If you weren't in the health care field, what career or field would you do?

A. Teaching either science, math or physical education.

Q. For someone considering a career like yours, what advice would you offer?

A. Research and visit as many schools as possible before making a decision on where to go. Talk to practicing doctors on how they practice. There are many different approaches to chiropractic.

Q. What's your ideal cure for the common cold?

A. Plenty of rest, fluids, and TLC.

Q. Despite being in the health care field, people would probably be surprised that when I'm off the job, I _________.

A. Enjoy just being with my family.
