Leo Hennessy of Orchard Street was attacked by a vicious dog while returning from work at the International Harvester plant on his bicycle yesterday morning. He fell and the dog bit him in the neck.

AUBURN - After nearly four months, it appears the Auburn school district is close to adopting a decision on a controversial busing policy for next school year. Current policy would prohibit students from being bused to and from schools that are closer to their day-care providers than their homes, but the policy is not strictly enforced. A likely change to the current policy would “grandfather” all elementary and middle school students currently enrolled, according to Jeanette Netti, the district's transportation supervisor.

MENTZ - Town Judge Richard Warrick recused himself from the animal-cruelty case against Richard Gilfus on Monday evening, the first time he's bowed out of a case in his 11 years on the bench. His decision was forced by a combination of issues, he said, ranging from Gilfus attorney Bill Montgomery's statement that he would add Warrick to his list of trial witnesses to Warrick's admission to himself that he may not be able to run a fair trial that would involve “people telling untrue stories.” Some of those stories confronted Warrick head-on at Monday's hearing when Montgomery presented his motion to disqualify Warrick from the case.
