Local rock band wins Sammy Award
Local rock band Stone Soul Foundation won the Sammy Award (Syracuse Area Music Award) for best area rock band. The award was announced Friday, June 1, during the annual Taste of Syracuse event in Clinton Square.
Band members include: Jeff Wiggins on guitar and vocals, Doug Paradise on bass, Shane Stillman on drums and vocals, Sean Muldoon on lead vocals and Dan Dennis on guitar and vocals.
Upcoming Auburn shows by the band include: 5 p.m. Friday, June 15, outside of Spirits on State Street, and at 5 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the Auburn Public Theater on Genesee Street.

Home Helpers available for work
Home Helpers are part-time workers who, for reasonable wages, are available for various jobs such as yardwork, general handyman repairs, personalized service, companions, care for the elderly, shopping, errands, meals, etc.
Call the Boyle Senior Center Program Office at 253-6178 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to learn how a Home Helper could help you. A member of the staff will take your request and send you a list of persons qualified for the job requested. You then contact the Home Helpers yourself by phone to negotiate hours and wages.
This program is sponsored by the Boyle Senior Center and funded by Cayuga County Office for the Aging and the New York State Office for the Aging.
Bilak receives award from Wells
Terry Bilak of Cayuga has received an award from Wells College. Bilak is career services program coordinator at Wells. She was honored with the 2007 Student Life Award during the annual Honors Convocation program held May 9. The Student Life Award is given each year to a member of the Wells College staff, faculty, or administration who through their campus involvement and enthusiasm has demonstrated a level of commitment and dedication that has had an encouraging and positive influence on student life.
This year, Collegiate Cabinet (student government) recognized Terry for “stepping forward and taking on several large projects for various student groups; going well beyond the call of duty to assist student publications and ensure their continued success; and working with the student body on community service projects and ideas.”

Miss Teen-Ager Pageant seeks girls
The Miss Teen-Ager Pageant of New York, now in its 34th year, will be held at Norwich, on Aug. 1.
The pageant is open to single girls who will be 13-18 on Aug. 1. Each of the contestants represent a county or area of New York state.
Competitions at the state pageant include an interview, swim suit, and gown competition and a one-minute speech for the top 10 girls.
