Why have school taxes risen when our students don't even attend classes?
All four (political) parties are ineptly run. All four parties need better leadership.

If Auburn gets a casino it has a future. If it doesn't, forget it.

We've been complaining about the potholes for years and they just keep getting worse. Let's get rid of those potholes, and no excuses, please.

At the end of June, Casey Park pool will be open. When are the repairs going to be done?

My husband and I left the Memorial Day parade with the same feelings written in the Sunday's paper by Judy Kilborne, regarding the candy throwing, which distracted greatly from the real reason we have this parade. Like Ms. Kilborne, we too enjoy seeing the kids at Halloween and giving out candy, but the Memorial Day parade is definitely not the place to do it.

When will you people in Cayuga County get it straight? Sheriff Gould had nothing to do with Lt. Langler's suspension.

All day May 31, the various media kept saying how May was the worst month for IEDs and GI deaths since 2004. Not one word why military is not allowed to use an electronic gun that will set off all IEDs it is aimed at.

" No kidding! I think we all read the "reasons" in the paper! Okay - it wasn't just "clam bake tickets" ....the point being, they are all trumped up ridiculous petty charges - set forth because 2 people (Fred and Joe) didn't want to respect their boss at work....they wanted Dave Gould for Sheriff and anytime Lt. Langler tried to do HIS job and bring some order back to their workplace - it was thrown is his face that "he was just doing that because they didn't support Sheriff Outhouse"! Are you kidding me?!?!? How frustrating to have to deal with such little people like that! I THOUGHT Dave Gould was smarter than that ... but apparently I (and many others) were wrong! He is no class act! "

" The solution to the parades is that unless you are organizing the parade then what is done by the organizers is what they chose to do. Unless you take over or start your own parade then what is done is their choice. If you don't like the content of the parade then don't go. Drive to another community where the parade is to your liking. I am sure that the organizers of the parade are not intending to disrespect Memorial Day and they are doing their best to put on a good community show in honor of veterans. Just keep your opinions to yourself and be thankful that these people put in a big effort to present this parade. As my mom told me "if you have nothing good to say then say nothing" and don't force your standards on others. "

" The "electronic gun" doesn't "set off" IED's; it jams the radio signal, and only works on remote-detonated IED's. If the IED is pressure-plate activated, like the one that blew up my son's truck, it's useless. "

" I think at this point everybody knows that Sheriff Gould played a major role in Lt.Langlers suspension. He may have not made the charges, but he is the man with the POWER,that could make it all happen. He is the driving force behind the suspension. What bothers me the most is that he wants to remove himself from the situation. Could it be because he knows deep down that Lt.Langler didn't deserve this harsh punishment and he could have handled this in a less aggressive manner? Now he regrets listening to two men like Fred and Joe and getting himself involved? Sheriff Gould is the man who dictates what goes on in his own dept. He is the one who put the stamp of approval on the suspension and THEN passed it on to our county manager, attorney, etc. They just did his dirty work for him. He didn't want to look associated with the whole mess because he knew it wasen't a fair deal and that Lt.Langler was being pushed out. I think this has become so contraversial because Lt. Langler has alot of respect and purely a connection with the residents of Cayuga County.I know everyone is getting sick of hearing this, but it is the truth.Nobody is saying that the election between Gould and Outhouse didn't get nasty, but it came from every direction. Meaning jailers, deputies, county workers, etc. If Sheriff Gould would have played it smart he would have taken care of this in house like he was advised by many to do. He went to far. Now he is trying to run from it.I think at this time most people feel there are bigger fish to fry then a man like Lt.Langler who was very strong in his belief, for his boss, Sheriff Outhouse. Truth be know that Lt.Langler would have done the same for Sheriff Gould. if just given the chance. "

" The only "future" Auburn has with a casino is one infinitely bleaker than the one it has now. When are the people pushing this nonsense gonna realize that this is Auburn is not much different than any other small rural town in America suffering through the evisceration of American small businesses through the trade policies and greed of Big Business? A casino is such an obvious trap--a carrot dangling in front of a dumb mule, waiting to lead it into the bankruptcy corral. "

" Auburn has no future without a casino? So the fact that Auburn was once the residence of Harriet Tubman, William Seward, and the birthplace of sound film mean nothing? I'd rather see the Schine Theater fixed up than a casino. "

incredulous wrote on Jun 7, 2007 7:44 PM:

" It's ridiculous to say that Auburn does not have a future if they don't get a casino. The opposite is true; it will create some jobs but ultimately it won't be able to compete with Turning Stone. If it is run by the Indians, the profits go in their pockets; if it is run by another entity, it will lose money because of the percentage of the casino proceeds that are taken by the state. Vernon Downs and Tioga Downs are two relatively local prime examples where this is happening. There are many other avenues to be taken to build Auburn's future; continued expansion of the college, exploration of alternative energy opportunities and continuing to foster the small business climate that exists are just a few examples. I find it ironic that the people in Two Cents who complain about not having enough money to pay their school taxes, water bills, etc. are endorsing something that sucks money out of most people's pockets. " If Sheriff Outhouse left office on Jan.1,2007, (when Sheriff Gould was sworn in) then how could he have nothing to do with Lt.Langlers suspension? His suspension started sometime in March. Also why dosen't he want to be connected with the suspension anyway? I can only figure because the whole county thinks it's a waste of the taxpayers money to have someone with Lt. Langlers reputation dragged through the mud over such ridiculous charges. So he wanted his men to sell clambake tickets and support Outhouse. BIG DEAL! A man shouldn't lose there job over it.Just admit it Sheriff Gould, you messed this one up, BIG TIME!! "

How come no one b$tches about them?? Build the damn casino and give all a chance for a job regardless of where it is at. "

" HEADQUARTERS GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC General Orders No.11, WASHINGTON, D.C., May 5, 1868 The 30th day of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet church-yard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit. We are organized, comrades, as our regulations tell us, for the purpose among other things, "of preserving and strengthening those kind and fraternal feelings which have bound together the soldiers, sailors, and marines who united to suppress the late rebellion." What can aid more to assure this result than cherishing tenderly the memory of our heroic dead, who made their breasts a barricade between our country and its foes? Their soldier lives were the reveille of freedom to a race in chains, and their deaths the tattoo of rebellious tyranny in arms. We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. All that the consecrated wealth and taste of the nation can add to their adornment and security is but a fitting tribute to the memory of her slain defenders. Let no wanton foot tread rudely on such hallowed grounds. Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no vandalism of avarice or neglect, no ravages of time testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic. If other eyes grow dull, other hands slack, and other hearts cold in the solemn trust, ours shall keep it well as long as the light and warmth of life remain to us. Let us, then, at the time appointed gather around their sacred remains and garland the passionless mounds above them with the choicest flowers of spring-time; let us raise above them the dear old flag they saved from hishonor; let us in this solemn presence renew our pledges to aid and assist those whom they have left among us a sacred charge upon a nation's gratitude, the soldier's and sailor's widow and orphan. It is the purpose of the Commander-in-Chief to inaugurate this observance with the hope that it will be kept up from year to year, while a survivor of the war remains to honor the memory of his departed comrades. He earnestly desires the public press to lend its friendly aid in bringing to the notice of comrades in all parts of the country in time for simultaneous compliance therewith. Department commanders will use efforts to make this order effective. By order of JOHN A. LOGAN, Commander-in-Chief N.P. CHIPMAN, Adjutant General Official: WM. T. COLLINS, A.A.G. "

By the way, the throwing of candy is dangerous and I do not know why it is allowed. I thought it was going to be banned from parades. Candy is for Halloween-not a Memorial Day Parade. "
