Auburn native David May shot a two-round total of 150 at a U.S. Open sectional qualifying tournament in Rockville, Md. on Monday. The Clemson sophomore missed the qualifying score by 10 strokes. He finished in a tie for 45th place.
At the Rockville site, 65 golfers competed for five U.S. Open spots. PGA Tour veterans Fred Funk and Joey Sindelar were two of the five golfers who qualified.
May was the medalist at a local qualifier in Blythewood, S.C. on May 21 to become eligible for the event. He led all golfers with a 67.
