On Monday I went to my first ever Memorial Day Parade in Auburn. Indeed here was a place to sell some of the last 100 of the 250 yard signs which I had made up: “Impeach Bush.” I also was carrying a petition directed to Congressman Michael Arcuri, asking him to initiate this impeachment process in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The most blatant reasons to justify the impeachment of Bush:
1. Breaking FISA law (written after Nixon's little tricks) to prevent secretive wiretaps without a court warrant; this FISA law reinforces the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Bush, when this secret lawbreaking was revealed, blatantly said he was going to do it evermore: Screw the Constitution.
2. Lying to and deceiving the U.S. Congress and U.S. citizens in order to justify an illegal war.
3. Criminal disregard for lives of citizens of a U.S. city, before, during and after a major storm, Hurricane Katrina.
The sad part of this parade was my encounters with some of the veterans who were supportive of a lying, warmongering president; some of these chaps were World War II veterans who apparently don't know the difference between a legally justified war based on threats to our country, and an illegal war based on lies, clever deception and propaganda supported by the mainstream media.
Maybe if they had fought in the Vietnam War, they would evoke wisdom, following reasoned reflection.
Some of the people who signed my petition, with the most passion, were those who had been in the military. As one VFW elder said to me: “He's not my Commander in Chief; I wouldn't go anywhere he commanded.”
