Rite Aid pharmacy finalized its acquisition of 351 Eckerd stores in New York, including three in Auburn, Monday.
Rite Aid, the third-largest drugstore chain in the U.S., added 1,854 Brooks and Eckerd stores as well as six distribution centers in 18 states as part of the deal. The company now has 5,000 stores nationwide and 730 in New York.
No decisions have been made on the future of the Eckerd stores at 25 Seminary St., 319 Genesee St. and 153 Grant Ave. in Auburn, Rite Aid spokeswoman Jody Cook said. The city has one Rite Aid store at 47 E. Genesee St.
The company will analyze stores that are close to each other. Customers and employees would be moved to the nearest Rite Aid if any Eckerd stores are closed.
Fewer than 200 acquired Eckerd and Brooks stores will be closed during the transition, Cook said.
The integration of Eckerd stores will happen in phases over the next 16 months.
Most acquired stores will be fully remodeled over the next several years.
