The Cayuga County Arts Council has appointed an executive director to lead projects, including the Schine Theater restoration.
Susan Harris brings 20 years of experience in project management, strategic marketing, public relations and fundraising, according to a press release from the council.

The Union Springs resident and Wells College graduate previously served on two state grant review boards. She also has a master's degree in communication design from SUNY Oswego.

Harris's key responsibility will be the ongoing restoration historic Schine Theater on South Street in Auburn. The council purchased the building in 1998 and has gradually made repairs since then.

" If you are not of the solution, you are part of the problem. Everyone in Auburn should support this project and make it happen. Be proud Auburnians! "

" Rather than wasting taxpayer dollars on this albatross, it would be better to simply tear the sucker down and turn it into a parking lot. Or if the "Arts Community" wants to preserve it so badly, let them pony up the dough from their wallets, not those of the taxpayer! And if the staff of the Citizen really think restoration is a good thing, pay for it via a newspaper sales tax, with the funds going to restoration. "

" Why cant the Cayuga County Arts Council start a community fundraiser to restore the schine theater instead of restoring it gradually.By the time the theater is restored its going to need dire repairs again at this pace "

" They've been talking about restoring it for at least 20 years and I don't see anything of consequence being done. 9 out 10 people I talk about it can't see them doing it. Why doesn't a politician come out with a stand against it. I bet he'd get a lot of votes just on that subject. A lot of money has already been wasted. "

" I don't know all the details of the Shrine Theatre restoration but I remember my grandmother taking me there on weekends and enjoyed going with friends as I got older. This theatre had such wonderful majesty & elegance. Let's give this council a positive "go" for a restoration that should have taken place years ago. Don't let it die like so many other sites that could have been saved, with alittle help & effort. "

" Hopefully the Schine theater will be restored to its former beauty and that Auburn citizens will appreciate the treasure that is theirs to enjoy. "
