CORTLAND -- It took an unfamiliar situation to push the Skaneateles girls lacrosse team back into what they do best - score and win games.

The top-seeded Lakers fell behind early and often against No. 2 Corning East in the New York State Regional Quarterfinals at SUNY Cortland on Saturday. That in itself was cause for concern since they didn't come from behind and win in any game against a New York opponent this year.
But after the Trojans stifled the typically potent Skaneateles offense for the first 34 minutes, the Lakers exploded for seven consecutive goals and escaped with the 12-9 win. Skaneateles advances to play Friday.
