Replacing lost ID cards shouldn't be so difficult

Saturday, June 2, 2007 11:38 PM EDT

Has any one ever tried to replace misplaced or stolen identification and social security cards?
To achieve the goal of acquiring a social security card, you must have a valid New York state current picture ID.

To receive a NYS picture ID, you need a current picture ID along with a social security card. While the cashier has your last picture ID card right on the computer, looking at you.

They know it's you but still have you run all over the city collecting information they already have! Let's not forget the pricey $10 birth certificate you also need.

You think they would be a little more reasonable with all this. It's not that difficult in Syracuse.

You would think that they would come up with a fingerprint system so they would know it was you and forget about all the extra paperwork.

" They are trying hard to protect YOU from identity theft. IF they do not require you to provide sufficient ID that you are who you say you are, then anyone could steal your identity by just walking in and asking for a replacement ID, claiming to be you. SO what if your numbers and stuff are on the computer? IN today's society, with ID theft so prevalent, you should be grateful that they did their job. It would not have been difficult if you had checked first to see what you needed and proceeded accordingly. "
