Each Sunday, The Citizen features a pet which is available for adoption.
This week, we spotlight Riley from the Finger Lakes SPCA.
Q. Who is your best friend?
A. I have a roommate whose name is Sid. He got here before I did, and he's been showing me the ropes.
Q. What games do you enjoy?
A. I'm learning to run after a ball and bring it back.
Q. Do you get along with other animals?
A. Oh yes. I get along very well with dogs (especially Sid). I see lots of cats when I go up to the lobby but haven't had any close encounters.
Q. Who do you prefer, adults or children?
A. I love everyone.
Q. How often do you like to be groomed?
A. I have a long, thick coat, so I must be brushed daily.
Q. When you go to your new home, what is the first thing you want to do?
A. I want to see if the yard is big enough for me and if there is a fence, which I hope there is. Then I will run the fence line.
Q. If you could visit any place in the world, where would that be?
A. I would like to go to Australia. I've heard they have lots of sheep there, and I could work as a herding dog, which is what I would be really good at.
Q. Do you have any advice for The Citizen's readers?
A. Yes. Please license and keep identification on your pets at all times, and if possible, have them microchipped. I would have gone home long ago if I had tags on.
Riley
Breed: Border Collie
Age: 3 to 4 months
Comments from the SPCA: Riley came to the shelter as a stray. He is such a beautiful baby that we were shocked to find that he was simply wandering the streets, alone and scared. However, he's blossomed into a sweet, full-of-energy little guy who is waiting to go home. Riley appears to be mostly Border Collie, but we have a feeling there is something else in there that he's not telling us about.
He is a big boy who will need a lot of room for exercise.
Riley has received his first vaccinations, has had a general de-worming and has been flea-treated. He will have his one-year rabies vaccination prior to leaving the shelter. He is still a bit on the young side for neutering so his new family will see to that.
He is available for adoption now at a donation of $110.50, which includes a refundable $50 neuter deposit and his license. Anyone interested in visiting with him can do so at the FLSPCA-CNY. To make an appointment, call 253-5841.
