Seventy five years ago my mother taught me that if I do not have anything nice to say about a person, do not say anything at all, and that the Lord works in mysterious ways. Since I have been a firearms owner, NRA instructor, competition shooter and hunter for 55 years, I have nothing to say about Sen. Charles Schumer, and thank you, Lord, for his tick.
Thank you so much, Auburn Police, for your response to the two loud, drunken “animal house” parties, vandalism and trespassing incidents that occurred Sunday night on Bellevue and Woodruff Place, and thanks to all hard-working family-oriented people in our neighborhood who spotted vandals, called in complaints, etc. Landlords, it is up to you to evict the bad elements now, so that good people can sleep at night.

I didn't realize that Lake Avenue is a drag-strip raceway, especially when the kids drive to school and at the end of the school day. Where are the police - do we not pay enough taxes for your salary?

I guess it depends on who you talk to about a casino, whether it be the Bible-thumping, do-gooder hypocrites or the average citizen who enjoys this type of entertainment. Put the casino issue to a vote and let the residents of Cayuga and Seneca counties decide.

Auburn implemented a city-wide ordinance prohibiting truckers from using loud engine brakes. The city should also go after unnecessarily loud motorcycles, mufflers, car stereos, etc.

" Not only do people in Auburn pay no attention to the speedlimit, they pay less attention to CROSSWALKS. Newsflash to all the morons out there, if someone wants to cross on a crosswalk, the law states you have to stop. Period. You have to. OnceI was crossing in front of the Y when a car came speeding up towards me and started swearing at me. Nice. And yesterday downtown, a woman and her small kids were trying to cross by seymour library. I stopped. Took 5 or 6 cars on the other side of the road to stop for her. People are lazy and rude! It is a sad world we live in today! "

Just because people go to the casino-it does not mean they have a problem. I have been to vegas so by some of your standards I must have a huge problem, and I buy scratch off lottery tickets ohh i hope someone intervens and saves me from my addiction--seriously this whole argument is ridiculous. As for the speed limit- I am pretty sure we all were driving at 16/17 did we all stink too? People in glass houses should not throw stones!! "

" CEO's are hired to make money for the stock holders. They often must cut costs and increase efficiency to do this, but it is supply and demand of skilled workers determines employee salaries (including the CEO). If they break the law, they are sued or fired or even sent to prison. This is the way capitalism works, and it works very well when allowed to do so without government interference as you can see by the booming capitalist economy of ours. The republicans have helped by cutting taxes which allows more investment and believe it or not higher tax revenue. Capitalism is a very competetive system which gives people and companies incentives to better themselves. It allows anyone to aquire wealth or lose everything regardless of social class. The democrat party promises wealth redistribution regardless of merit which removes incentives to work hard. This hinders economic growth, keeps people in poverty, and gives the democrats an even larger voting base of poor, uninformed voters who are foolish enough to believe in the promise of something for nothing. You have earn it. "

Here's our problem -- people who think laws only apply to other people and they can do what they want because they have decided it's safe. WRONG! It has nothing to do with skill, w-u-idiot -- it has to do with what the law says is safe -- you aren't the law, you don't get to decide, and many of us don't agree that you have the skills you CLAIM to have anyway. It reminds me of a nutso neighbor I had once who kept firing his gun uphill towards our property. When the police came to make him stop, he argued with them that it was "safe" so he could do it even though it is totally against the law to discharge a firearm with in a certain distance of any residence. That's what's wrong with our world around here -- people who truly believe they are above the law, that they know better and because they believe they know better, they have the right to do as they please. GET OFF THE ROAD, you maniac, before you kill someone in your arrogant assumption of your supposed "skills!" "

I like it even more if I can box you in, I'll speed up just a little bit, to catch up with the other car, to make you think you can pass me.ha ha ha. These are good times. I like it even more, if Im putzing around with no place to go, and then I decide at the last minute to turn right, and you have to slam on your brakes. ha ha ha. "

" Auburn resident if a casino comes to a vote. I doubt it will ever get farther than a wet dream. Since any agreements will effect Cayuga and Seneca counties. No chance of ever seeing it go that far. When water runs up hill. Your wish of a vote for just the city of Auburn thinking is invalid. It would be both counties. FYI the Cayuga and Cayuga Seneca tribes lost their land claim in the Supreme court. Why are our county and city leaders, still playing games? They want to give up 10,000 acres to be soveregin afterwards? "

It's time for Mayor Lattimore and his council to seriously look into helping inventors out. go to InventorED.org and look at all the people who have great inventions, they just need help, example a building to set up shop in. a break on taxes, etc.etc. This city has numerous empty buildings everywhere. How hard would it be for our elected officials to make some phone calls, pull some strings. Help some entrepenuers out, in turn it creats new jobs for our city. THIS IS THE ANSWER. GET IT DONE! "

" KevIn, as usual, a comment that adds NOTHING to the conversation; go back to your Ann Coulter book and stir your milk...Bobbo, it may be that tazes are driving the loss of business and jobs, but plain ol GREED is behind WHY it is; look at the salaries of the CEO's and their "profit taking"--they are plundering peoples' pensions, retirement benefits, health plans and lowering wages or firing invested workers in order to hire low-cost illegals or foreigners so they can pad their own retirement and off-shore accounts. Thats not because the companies are being taxed; that's good ol' fashioned GREED! It's like "The Great Plunder"! And along with it it's destroying our tax base and endangering America's very future--and the Republican Party is aiding and abbetting it all the way. "

AJ wrote on May 31, 2007 6:11 PM:

" I couldn't have said it better Karl. Also, big government is not necessarily a bad thing if it protects the little guy from the corporate swine. Even most wingers would no doubt agree that we need protection from predatory capitalists when the argument is properly framed. Just a couple of examples of the things we rely on goverment to do: ensure our food and water supplies are safe (granted it's doing a better job these days of protecting the corporate interests), police and fire protection, regulate automobile safety and product safety in general, maintain our roads, provide at least a minimum level of a safety net to help people who fall through the cracks in the system - and there are many in a capitalist system (although it fails miserably in this regard). I could go on and on but I think most will get the point. Whenever you have corporate entities that essentially can live in perpetuity and grow to enormous size, there HAS to be some checks in place. Personally, I believe corporate charters should never be granted in perpetuity and they should prove their worth regularly or lose them, and their size should be limited, just as they did decades ago. I also feel that one of the major problems of corporations is the notion that they have the same rights as people, which is patently absurd. Capitalism has indeed allowed for many great things, but it has to be kept in check. Karl made it pretty clear why. "

" Well Karl, I guess I can finally agree with you on at least one thing; I don't think the government should dictate what you can and cannot do. Although, its a little too easy to blame corporate America for everything. Adversley it is big government with its restrictions, regulations and taxes on corporations that has driven jobs and savings out of this country. If you read the 'fair tax' book (written by a libertarian) you would understand that if implemented, the 'fair tax' would bring back the incentives for businesses, jobs, and personal savings to all the American people. You see, corporations aren't bad for Americans, big government and taxes are. But you'll never learn that listening to Democracy Now. "

By libertarian I mean I don't think the government should dictate what you can do or not, unless your actions seriously endanger your fellow citizens and the collective good. How that may be defined, I realize , is a matter of interpretation, but seriously, the "free market" as it's been skewed and perverted by corporations today is certainly NOT for the collective good, and the statistics prove it as far as personal savings, income, etc. "
