The incumbent Auburn school board members' re-election platform was based on doing an outside search for superintendent.
They said they would do the right thing by ordering a proper search for our new superintendent and they have kept their word.
It's a big job and although there may be qualified candidates in our midst, it makes sense to do whatever is necessary to ensure the best possible candidates have been reviewed and considered. It's nice to see Mike Stearns and Ginny Kent standing by their campaign promises.
€ Question: Why would state and local politicians “settle” with the Indians on their illegal land claims when we keep beating them in the courts?
Answer: There is no reasonable answer - it's crazy. We don't have to settle, there's nothing to settle. The courts have already thrown out their land claims. And there shouldn't be a casino because the federal Indian Gaming Regulatory Act says there must be a valid land claim which, again, has already been shot down by the courts. There is no valid land claim so why are we opening up this thing again?
There seems to be a a lot of politicians that are breaking the laws along with the feds trying to empower themselves with authority they don't have.
We just keep recycling this idea of a settlement and casino because some don't like the outcome in the courts.
Mayor Timothy Lattimore has fallen right into this trap. We should be focused in on real economic development, not a pie in the sky.
€ Cayuga County Legislature term limit laws are being discussed over and over. Few legislators see a problem with breaking the law that limits them to 12 consecutive years of service. Peter Tortorici has voiced his concerns over the resignations that have taken place. But Ann Petrus sees nothing wrong with what she has done when she temporarily resigned so she could collect her retirement from a previous county job.
Well, Ann, I see a huge problem with it. You took money from one job so you could collect state retirement benefits and the law states that you can't get those benefits if you are currently holding another state job. Now if anyone should know that certainly a lawmaker should.
This law was supposed to stop employees from feeding off the system - halting all double dipping. Tortorici has been right on target.
David Pappert is another politician who has really put himself out there for us taxpayers. He has announced there should not be insurance for new legislators. It would save us millions of dollars.
He is backed up by Dan Schuster, who based his campaign on this. Nice to see some of our elected officials fighting for the taxpayers.
