A car-motorcycle crash in the town of Waterloo on Wednesday afternoon killed the motorcycle driver and left its passenger injured, state police said.
The car was turning left onto routes 5&20 from Packwood Road when it accelerated rapidly and lost control, police said. The vehicle then went into the westbound lane toward the motorcycle. The motorcycle tried evasive action and pulled to the road's north shoulder. The vehicle continued onto the shoulder and struck the motorcycle.

The operator of the motorcycle, Joseph Chase, 64, of Camillus, was pronounced dead at Geneva General Hospital. His passenger, Cheryl Sheppard, 57, of Camillus, was in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The car's driver, Matthew Agan, 19, of Waterloo, was uninjured.

The investigation is continuing and any charges are pending, police said.

" o0o0o0 - were you intoxicated when this was written? What the heck does it say? I read no point. I would have liked to have read an intelligent comment or two related to some of the other points given in the comments posted section. But it looks like spelling and grammer were absent from your upbringing in addition to driver education. "

" Defensive driving course? My 16 yr old just took the 5 hour course in Auburn to be eligible to take his driver test next week. They got started 45 minutes late because they waited for the late arrivers, got completely off the beaten path of the topic of learning how to drive, ran out of time so the guy never gave them an exam to pass or file, they were released one hour early, and each person there received a certificate of having attended a defensive driving 5 hour course. My son and his buddy thought the course was great. Me....? I want to know who is watching over Mr. Baird, the driving teacher/examiner who ran this class. It is a joke. A real driver safety course might smarten these kids-who-become-adults up when it comes to driving. DRIVER EDUCATION COURSES AT SCHOOLS are the best thing a school could ever offer their students. They have required hours of driving behind the wheel with the instructor at their side, and required classroom lectures. They cannot miss a class without making it up, and even then the number of absences is limited, and it is treated very seriously. Auburn is doing their school community a disservice by not offering it. Who knows if it would have smartened this driver up who caused the accident - but I think it is too easy for kids to become licensed drivers without the full driver education course and they aren't slowing the whole process down by actually being trained over a long period of time. There is more training required for 12/13 year to become babysitters than there is for young adults to drive an automobile on the open road. "

" I watch these teen drivers everyday! Most of them show no reguard for the other person on the road. Most of them drive like they have something to prove. Well...this time it caused a life!!! It truly is a tradegy!!! "

" The car accelerated rapidly? The car? Or might it have been the driver who made the car accelerate? Responsibility here folks.... "

" We just finished our second motorcyle week in Myrtle Beach, even though I don't care for cycles, most of the accidents and deaths were caused by auto drivers, not the bickers. Wake up car drivers you have a responsibility to be aware of the way you are driving. "

" You think for one minute driver ed would have kept this accident from happening. If you do, you're an idiot. From the report the 19 year old was speeding and pulled out in front of the motorcyclist. Tons of elderly take defensive driving and yet 8 motorcyclists at Bike Week this year were killed by drivers over seventy. Parents should bear the cost of driver education not the taxpayers! Driving is a priviledge! "
