Two Cents

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 10:16 AM EDT

I was reading the article the other day in The Citizen about whether or not Roy Brown should receive some recompense for his bum rap, but yet still nobody has yet explained in the paper why did every document that pointed away from Roy Brown and toward somebody else, somehow never made it to the defense team, let alone the jury?
Uninformed Lisa Backus doesn't realize that the Two Cent column is the only reliable form of communication normal, non-liberal citizens have to express their opinion.

All this hullabaloo about Barry Bonds taking steroids while he's trying to beat Hank Aaron's home run record. Has anyone ever checked to see if Hank Aaron took steroids?

I'm a truck owner and I don't plan on paying a silly toll to use your lousy, no jake-braking city streets, especially since I already pay a mileage tax in this state to use the roads. Do you?

Once again in Auburn, in Cayuga County Court, there is abuse of a disabled person, and that person only gets minimum punishment. Take a wake-up call, the disabled do deserve justice.

This is to the truck-toll advocate: Without trucks, America stops. If you bought it, a trucker brought it.

" Nobody's "anti=capitalist" here--but rampant, unchecked greed at the expense of Greater Society is not good for America. Corporate control and infiltration of Politics is a de facto trait of Fascism, and that's what's happening today. Greedy corporations are skewing the old, viable Business model of Capitalism into a personal rewards system which enriches very few at the expense of the greater good, the Middle Class (which is our tax base) and employment prospects. I mean, do you ever get the feeling that "the Great Plunder" is going on? All the jobs are getting shipped to India and overseas, what jobs still here in Science and hi-tech are being filled by foreign workers, and now this DISASTROUS "Immigration" bill will import and legitimize millions of slaves at slave wages to take the low paying jobs that have sustained the lower class. And all the while, corporations and shiny, happy CEO's are getting richer and richer. See anything wrong with this picture? So if the government (which is in bed with all these corp. lobbyists)isn't going to pay to sustain the poor who's gonna do it? The RICH?!?! Yeah, right. "

He also states 'greedy anti-social corporations' in other words anti-capitalism. Why do you guys hate the very things that made America the greatest country in the world? I won't even get into that hate speech puke that is spewed out on Democracy Now radio. Listen to someone intellegent like Levin or Boortz for a change. "

How Railroads and Trucks can co-exist in an all-around healthy fashion wrote on May 31, 2007 10:16 AM:

" I'd like to see rail transport for all long distance shipping, while trucks were used only for local shipping. You wouldn't need so many really BIG trucks, for one thing, so less fuel would be wasted. Drivers wouldn't be crossing the country doing marathon runs with little sleep and lots of speed -- which would be safer for everyone. Of course, the railroad infrastructure would have to be repaired and rebuilt, and all those long-distance truck drivers would have to be re-trained to become rail employees! "

" I at times drive on Owasco Rd and at times see a speed radar sign that displays your driving speed. Maybe that is something they could do on Lake Ave as so often people are barreling down Lake Ave far greater than 30 MPH. I know it works as a factor in getting most people to slow down. Union Springs has that on Rte 90 as well going into the village and it does help. "

" Babe Ruth set REAL records back when there were no steroids for him to be taking, when ballparks where bigger and when he was drinking heavily all the time (not a good example, but it was a handicap that didn't hold him back). All these hitters who have come along since they shrunk the size of ballparks should not be given records over the old guys; they should have separate records because they really are not comparable -- in the old days, they had to hit the ball a lot further to get it out of the park, and they didn't have the drugs to enhance their performance unnaturally -- those guys were something special. "

Brew wrote on May 31, 2007 1:41 AM:

" First of all what is a normal non-liberal person. If you are a non-liberal you are a selfish, uncaring, overbearing pig. Is that normal? As for trucks. Long ago it was proposed that to put railroads and trucks on a competitive playing field that the government build and maintain the rail lines like it does the highways for trucks and charge a use tax as trucks pay. The teamsters and the truckmakers lobbied against that and the railroads have declined since then. If that proposal came to be, their would be less pollution, less comsumption of fuel, and the roads and bridges would be in better condition. Rail transportation is so much better for the environment and the infrastructure. Ahhhh the mistakes we have made. "

Perhaps you should pay more attention to your driving and drive around the holes. Finally, you're grammar and spelling are atrocious. You have access to the internet. " Barry Bonds may not be using steroids now but he is using HGH; another ILLEGAL substance. The bottom line is he has been breaking the law. Those of you who work out regularly know that its obvious that he took steroids and knows how to beat the drug tests. Yes, people make mistakes but many are repentent; Bonds is not. He recently stated that he is "all about me" when telling the people at the Baseball Hall of Fame that he isn't sending anything to the Hall. A great ambassador of the game - HA! His attitude is nothing new - he's been this way for years. When he ends up alone with number one (himself), he'll get what he deserves. Henry Aaron has more class in his little finger than Bonds could ever hope to have. "

" Steroids were not a substance back in the days of Hammerin Hank. Though it was reported that other substances were abused by many greats like Hank and the Babe. Though I think Aarons record is better because of the era he was in. He was trying to overcome the color barrier as well as break a cherished record held in baseball hearts. It is a miracle he made it with the thousands of death threats he receiced at the time. I like Bonds very much because I am not a bandwagon jumper. Bonds is not on steroids now and is swinging the bat better than most kids half his age. He also has bad legs. He is proving it isnt steroids that makes the ball go farther but bat speed as well. Bonds may be forgotten by many down the road but I think he deserves his accomplishments. We all fall at times and we all make mistakes. I hate to see people blast him for not his sake but the sake of abuse his children will have to endure in the future. Put yourself in those shoes. "

I just think that wrote on May 30, 2007 1:08 PM:

" it would be better all the way around, you can't eliminate trucking entirely but you can see that the companies that do use rail find it easier and more economical for shipping purposes. Using terminals the trucks would hook up, drive to the locality and make the deliveries. Cutting down on a ton of issues that are of concern in todays world. Here is a link of many on the internet found on this topic. http://www.epa.gov/smartway/documents/intermodal%20shipping.pdf "

what are you wrote on May 30, 2007 12:48 PM:

" What are you going to pick up the goods with at the terminals? It may work alright for a bigger city, but I bet reserving the space and the cost of operating a train for all the cargo isn't all the much of a saving. Maybe you have numbers to backup your argument? "

I have always wrote on May 30, 2007 12:13 PM:

" wondered why America does not use the railroad systems for transporting goods. Rail cars can be picked up at terminals just like anything else. No different than containers in a shipyard being picked up and then trucked to the localities and businesses via trucks. It seems to be more energy efficient as well. Less gas, diesel fuel, wear and tear on the roads....less expenses and serves the purpose. Some companies, but not enough, now only use rail to transport directly from manufacturing plants to distribution centers and they find it more economical all the way around. "
