City Hall starts summer hours
Auburn Memorial City Hall will begin summer hours beginning 8 a.m. and closing at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

City leaders are mulling over the idea of keeping these hours year-round.

They will review hours of operation around Labor Day.

Accused underwear thief has hearing

A pre-trial hearing was held in Cayuga County Court Wednesday in the case of a man accused of entering a Weedsport residence and stealing women's underwear from a laundry room.

Stephen Rudick, 26, with a last known address of 2692 Jefferson St., Weedsport, faces the felony charge of second-degree burglary and the misdemeanor charge of petit larceny.

He is accused of entering the Weedsport residence at 2:15 a.m. June 30, 2006.

Witnesses gave their testimony Wednesday and Judge Thomas Leone reserved decision.

He must consider the validity of entering statements given to police into a jury trial and to determine if witnesses can make an in-court identification of Rudick.

Rudick is being represented by attorney Eric Smith and Assistant District Attorney Chris Valdina handled the prosecution side of the case Wednesday.

Probation violation puts man in jail

A Lyons man was sentenced to 30 days in Cayuga County Jail Friday for failing to meet the conditions of his probation sentence for a domestic violence conviction, according to Assistant District Attorney Heather DeStefano.

Carl Capron, 37, of 4425 State Route 14, failed to complete substance abuse treatment, a counseling course for men convicted of domestic abuse and to make several Cayuga County Integrated Domestic Violence Court appearances, DeStefano said.

Capron originally was sentenced to serve 60 days in the Cayuga County Jail and three years probation for the misdemeanor convictions of third-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal mischief related to a July 2005 incident.

Judge Thomas Leone first issued a warrant for Capron's arrest after he failed to appear May 15.
