Each Friday, The Citizen features someone in education from the Finger Lakes community in The Banks:
This week, we spotlight Mitch Lucas.
Q. What motivates you to go to school each day?
A. Seeing my friends and knowing that I'm going to learn something new each day.
Q. What is the coolest activity you've ever done in one of your classes?
A. In one of my science classes, we got to make gooey blobs made out of borax, glue and water.
Q. Is there anything that you feel your school is lacking?
A. My school, I think, needs a wider variety of after school clubs.
Q. Do you think the stress of homework pays off on test day? Why or why not?
A. Yes, because it helps me practice a topic until it becomes easier and easier for me. It helps me when it is time for a test.
Q. What is your favorite after school activity and why?
A. Going to the technology room and working on the computer to make three dimensional images of an idea I have. Then I can build it in the lab.
Q. If you were to change one thing about your school, what would it be?
A. I think our school needs a healthier selection of foods. Right now, our school has a healthy selection, but it's not very big. They need a larger healthy menu and a smaller unhealthy menu.
Q. Does school start too late, too early or is your school's morning hour just fine?
A. I think our school starts too early, but it does open at the time most schools do.
Q. Do you think schools should have soda machines? Why or why not?
A. No, because during the day, we have little physical activity. If we have soda and do very little exercise, our bodies would be in terrible condition. However, our school does not allow soda machines.
Q. What is your favorite class and why?
A. Science class because there is so much to learn, and I find the information very interesting
Q. Does homework interfere with your free time?
A. Not really, unless I have to write an essay or work on a project. But most of the time, I can get my homework done in an hour after I get home from school.
