New members inducted in society
On Wednesday, the St. Joseph School National Junior Honor Society inducted 10 new members. Students are chosen for membership based on five qualities: scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship.
The inductees include: Kayla Dudden, Amber Kukiela, Matthew Leja, Carolyn Morris, Amy Abraham, Maddie Fessenden, Kacey Jervis, Emily Latanyshyn, Maggie Lewis and Molly Sabine.
Weedsport to hold annual parade
Weedsport Central School District will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade, ceremony and Watch Fire Monday.
The parade, which begins promptly at 9 a.m. May 28, will feature floats that have been constructed and designed by the senior government classes.
Immediately following the parade is a ceremony at the Clark-Heck American Legion Post.
Students and veterans will join together to conduct a program that honors and celebrates the brave men and women who fought for the freedoms we have today.
Then at 8 p.m. members of the senior government classes, members of the Clark-Heck American Legion Post and the Cayuga County Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a Watch Fire at the school to honor all those who have and are serving and properly dispose of worn American flags.
Student video earns prestigious awards
A student video project for Professor Steve Keeler's documentary production class has earned two impressive awards. The production, “A Tale of Two Lakes,” traces the different histories of two lakes in central New York - one, Onondaga Lake, is among the most polluted in the nation; and the other, Skaneateles Lake, is among the cleanest.
The student producers, all of whom have graduated, were Peter Cramer, Laura Harmon, Caleb Kerlin, Lindsey Needell, Brian O'Hare and Eric Smith.
Port Byron to hold alumni meeting
The Port Byron Alumni Association will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, June 9, at Dana L. West High School, 30 Maple Ave., Port Byron. Social time will be from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. followed by dinner. Dinner is $15 per person; dues are $3.
The Port Byron Alumni Association is proud to honor Kelly Green Lipiska by presenting two scholarships in her name. The classes of 1957 and 1982 will also be honored.

The Moravia Central School District is looking for nominations for the Hall of Achievement. If you know of a prestigious alumnus who is a positive role model for students, graduated prior to 1997 and is distinguished in career, community service and or socially responsible endeavors, fill out the nomination form available at the Moravia Central School District's Office.
Submit your nomination to the superintendent of school by Saturday, June 30. The induction ceremony will be held during homecoming activities this fall.
