Soccer tryouts begin this weekend
Tryouts for the Fingerlakes Flash, the Cayuga County Under 19 soccer team, will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 26, and Sunday, May 27, at the Port Byron High School soccer field.

Those born after August 1987 are eligible to try out. All participants must bring soccer gear and insurance information.

Racquetball league forming at YMCA

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU will be offering a Women's Racquetball League starting the week of June 4. The five-week league is open to women and teens of all playing levels. Players are matched against other players of similar ability in a round-robin format.

The registration deadline is May 29, and the fee is $15 for members, $30 for the general public.

Kids Sandlot Baseball is looking for vendors for the Fifth Annual Flea Market and Chicken BBQ from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 14.

Camp Y-Owasco taking registrations

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is accepting registrations for day and resident camp sessions at Camp Y-Owasco.

Day camp is open to boys and girls ages 6 to 14; resident camp serves children 9 to 14 years old.

Camp Y-Owasco provides opportunities for children to learn, grow and have fun in a beautiful outdoor, lake-side setting. Campers can participate in sailing, canoeing, nature study, archery, arts and crafts, athletics, water-skiing, swimming, Project Adventure and camp crafts.

Camp Y-Owasco is located on the east shore of Owasco Lake. Bus transportation from neighborhood pickup points within the city of Auburn to Camp Y-Owasco is provided for day campers each morning, with a return trip in the afternoon.

Cycling event to ride along Erie Canal

Registration is now open for the ninth annual Cycling the Erie Canal, a 400-mile bicycling tour from Buffalo to Albany scheduled for July 8-15. The eight-day recreational bicycling tour will help highlight the beauty, history, culture and recreational appeal of the canal system.

The registration fee is $520 and includes camping accommodations each evening with showers and toilet facilities, eight breakfasts and six dinners, two refreshment stops daily, guided tours of the Erie Canal, a T-shirt and water bottle, a sag wagon and mobile mechanical support, baggage transportation, daily maps and cue sheets, and marked routes.

A shuttle will be available for the beginning of the ride to transport riders and their bicycles to Buffalo.

Two weekend ride options are available, from Buffalo to Pittsford on July 7-9 and from Canajoharie to Albany from July 13-15.
