New York blood in short supply
According to the American Red Cross Blood Services, New York-Penn Region, an unexpected decline in blood collections since the beginning of May has resulted in a collection short fall of more than 1,900 units of blood.

The Red Cross reports less than a one-day supply of O-Negative blood, the universal blood type. The need for blood is constant and never takes a holiday. Patients having emergency surgery, trauma victims, premature babies and persons undergoing cancer treatment are just some of the people who depend on this lifesaving medicine every day.

T-shirts will be given to all presenting donors through Memorial Day. In addition, all donors through Thursday, May 31, are eligible to enter a random drawing to win $1,000 to be applied toward rent or a mortgage payment.

Blood drives are scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at the Union Springs Firehouse hosted by Cayuga Lake National Bank between; from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Second Baptist Church, Auburn, and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the Chamber of Commerce, 36 South Street, Auburn.

For more information or to register, contact the American Red Cross at 252-9596.
