Women in Business to discuss tourism
The Women in Business monthly meeting will kick off with a spotlight on the tourism industry in Auburn.
Marketing directors from the Holiday Inn, Inn at the Finger Lakes and Springside Inn will speak about the trends in the industry and more during the meeting 8 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at the Cornell Cooperative Extension Cayuga County Education Center, 248 Grant Ave in Auburn.
Organizers will serve beverages and light breakfast refreshments.

Sheriff's office issues April report
The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office responded to 616 calls for service, 92 property damage motor vehicle accidents and 25 personal injury motor vehicle accidents in April, the office reported.
The office made 55 penal law arrests and two driving while intoxicated arrests. It issued 144 uniform traffic tickets and served 137 civil papers with receipts of $58,902.21.
Institute earns contest award
The Institute for the Application of Geospatial Technology, on Cayuga Community College's campus, earned the title of winner of the International Digital Earth Grand Challenge 3D Visualization Contest. Judges selected IAGT's SERVIR Viz application out of 51 entries from around the globe. The winners will attend a symposium in June at the University of California at Berkeley.
The SERVIR project includes mapping and creating 3D visualization for seven countries that make up Mesoamerica. The geospatial data is used for environmental management, monitoring, and natural disaster recovery in the Central American region.
