Each Monday, The Citizen features someone from the Finger Lakes community.
This week, we spotlight Christine Gilfus of Four Seasons Memorials.
Q. What is the most rewarding part of your job?
A. Being able to work with my brother and sister-in-law and being able to see the conclusion for many family members during one of the most difficult times a person can experience.
Q. What is the most challenging aspect of your job?
A. Making the families comfortable during the final process of closure.
Q. What would be your dream job, and in what part of the world would you be working?
A. Hop on a plane and travel all over, meeting new people and having new experiences and in the process, helping those who need help. Actually, this right here is my dream job.
Q. What's the best way to relax after a tough day?
A. Usually I just talk to my kids, my husband or my best friends, Linda or Marilyn.
Q. What do you like most about the Finger Lakes region?
A. It's home. Just like they say, “There's no place like home.” It's big enough to have new experiences but small enough so you're not leery about going out.
Q. If you had the choice of meeting any three people in the world who would they be, and why?
A. The pope, because he's the one closest to God. Really just the pope, he's the only person I truly want to meet.
Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
A. Right here.
Q. If you were to win the lottery tomorrow, what's the first thing you'd do?
A. Make a contribution to my parish and take care of my family, tell my husband to quit his job and travel.
Q. What would people who think they know you be most surprised to find out about you?
A. That I kayak.
Q. If you were mayor or supervisor, what's the first thing you'd change?
A. I'd listen more to the citizens and how they'd like the city run. And if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Q. Do you have any special plans for the next few months?
A. Business is really busy, so I'll be here. I'll also be getting ready to take another vacation.
