Project to list seven wondrous people
Eighth-graders at East Middle School are building upon last year's project involving the “Seven Wonders of Auburn” to this year spotlight the “Seven Wondrous People of Auburn.”
The project originated when students read “The Seven Wonders of Sassafras Springs,” a novel by Betty Birney. According to the book, “a wonder is a marvel; that which arouses awe, astonishment, surprise or admiration.”
Community members are asked to submit their selections for those people that make Auburn unique. A “wondrous person” can be, but is not limited to, a celebrity, educator, entrepreneur, family member, folklore, historical person, inventor, politician, sports figure, volunteer, etc. Math students will poll community members, collect all the data and tally the results to establish the final list.
The community may vote through a student interview, via e-mail at sevenwonders@auburn.cnyric.org or by mailing their selections to: Mr. Jeff Alberici, East Middle School, 191 Franklin St., Auburn, NY 13021. Voting ends on Thursday, May 31.
Nominations and the final “Seven Wondrous People of Auburn” will be posted online at www.auburn.cnyric.org.
