Democrat Paloma Capanna announced Friday that she intends to run against Republican incumbent state Sen. Michael Nozzolio in the 54th Senate District.
Capanna, a self-employed family law attorney from Webster, N.Y., ran for Congress in 2006 before stepping aside to Dan Maffei, who ran a close race against incumbent U.S. Rep. James Walsh.
In a news release, Capanna said that promises to be a banner year for the Democrats in New York” as they vie for state Senate seats.
“This campaign is about our future,” Capanna said. “A future with a vibrant regional economy, stimulated by research and development of enviro-energy sources at a pilot project we'll call ‘America's Center for Energy.'”
Capanna said the concerns she hears most are about energy, the environment, mass transportation and health care.
Nozzolio ran unopposed to win his eighth term in the state Legislature in 2006. He was also unopposed in 2004.
